A large shopping mall in London required a new entrance lobby that balanced energy efficiency, aesthetic appeal, and safety regulations. Entec worked closely with the client to design, manufacture, and install multiple automatic swing and sliding doors, creating a solution that met both everyday operational needs and emergency evacuation requirements.
Project Overview
The client required an entrance package that would enhance the mall’s overall aesthetic while also being highly functional. Entec developed a solution incorporating both swing and sliding doors, carefully integrating them into the space to provide a seamless look while improving energy efficiency and pedestrian flow.
Challenge
Delivering a set of entrances that matched the mall’s aesthetic and energy efficiency requirements whilst ensuring sufficient opening space to handle the high traffic during an emergency evacuation situation.
Solution
Entec tackled these challenges in several ways. We designed an entrance system with multiple doorways, only automating the doors needed to handle the typical daily pedestrian traffic—increasing the building’s energy efficiency. The additional, non-automated doorways were designed with breakout functionality so that in the event of an emergency, these can be pushed open to increase the overall exit opening width—ensuring emergency escape requirements are complied with. Additionally, we manufactured the door sets with stainless steel cladding and installed hidden automatic operators, so the entrances blended in with the aesthetic of the shopping mall.
