A precision-engineered acoustic solution for McLaren Racing

Blocking noise without compromising access for cars—or performance.

McLaren Racing’s wind tunnel testing area generates significant noise during operation, making communication in adjacent spaces difficult. They needed a solution that would dampen the sound between the wind tunnel and the workshop, without disrupting the flow of people—or race cars—between the two areas. Entec delivered a custom acoustic-rated sliding door system, engineered to isolate sound while offering smooth, unobstructed access.

What we did

To improve working conditions without altering the flow of movement, Entec designed, manufactured, and installed a bespoke sliding door system with high acoustic performance. The doors were tailored to McLaren’s requirements—spanning a wide opening and maintaining a completely flush threshold to avoid interference with sensitive racing equipment.

Creating a door set that effectively achieved the required acoustic performance while giving a clear opening width of over 3 metres—and without any type of threshold which could damage the race cars.

Entec designed, built and installed a bespoke sliding door system to meet McLaren’s unique requirements. Thermally broken aluminium profiles and a specialist sliding track allowed the doors to span over 3 metres while remaining lightweight. Acoustic-rated panels delivered the necessary sound insulation, and drop seals with magnetic latching ensured a tight, threshold-free seal—preserving both acoustic performance and smooth, unobstructed access for the team and racing equipment.

“Survey, meetings on site, installation all first class. Well done to the engineers, office staff and everyone at Entec – couldn’t have gone any better.”
